February loves to tell us one story.

That it’s romantic. Paired. Polished. Performative.
That it needs to be proven, with roses, expensive gifts and aesthetics.

But that version of love has never held space or truth for all of us. At älliés, we’ve always believed something different:

Love is recognition. Seeing yourself. Seeing each other. Being seen, fully. Love is the friend who hypes you up before you step out the door. The chosen family who holds you when the world feels heavy. The community that reminds you who you are when you forget.

And yes, love is also the relationship you build with yourself. Not the glossy, “perfect” version. The real one. The evolving one. The one that changes its mind. This is why we don’t celebrate expectations. We celebrate expression. Autenticithy and boldness.

Expression can be choosing a bold lip because it feels powerful today. Or shadow because it feels playful. Or soft. Or loud. Or confusing.
Autenticithy is experimenting without asking for permission.
Boldness is letting your face, your body, your identity be a canvas — not a compromise.

As a black founder building a brand rooted in inclusivity, I’ve learned that love and identity are deeply connected. When you’re constantly navigating spaces that weren’t designed with you in mind, self-expression becomes an act of care and sometimes, resistance.

So this Valentine’s season, I’m not asking with who you’re celebrating. I’m asking how you’re celebrating.

Are you honouring the versions of yourself that got you here? Are you creating space for joy that doesn’t need to make sense to anyone else? Are you letting beauty be playful, expressive, and yours freely?

At älliés, love or beauty has never been about fitting in. It’s about showing up, boldly, softly, unapologetically as you are.
